Remember learning how to drive? I'm reminded of the process it took to learn this skill since I have a 16 year old son who is now driving and a 14 year old son learning. Think to your self how automatic things are now to you when you are driving, but those skills were not always so automatic. Is learning any other skill really so different? What starts as a challenge soon becomes a routine and automatic skill. How does this happen? I believe 3 important steps must occur to move from a wish to a reality.
1. GOALS 2.STRATEGIES 3. HABITS
Simply stated you start with a goal ( I want to learn to drive) , then you have a strategy (I'll need access to a car, instructional material, and someone to teach me), and lastly you create a habit (Every Tuesday and Saturday (I'll practice driving)
Sound Simple? Well it should'nt be hard, but you may involve a few more details. Try this process when determining your Health goals. Whats the goal?.....List some strategies.....create the habits. I can tell you that the step with the most impact is creating habits! Persistent, focused, and continual..... rinse and repeat. The habits you create are the daily choices you make and the cumulative effects over time make the changes you were hoping for. You can do it. Good luck.... - Dr. Darren
